Abstract Background and Aim: The purpose of this study was to compare the shear bond strength of three bonding agents known as Excite, Prime & bond NT and Clearfil SE Bond. Materials and Methods: Sixty premolar teeth were randomly divided into two groups. The buccal surfaces of 30 teeth in group 1 were cut by trimmer to expose the dentin in the coronal portion and those of the teeth in group 2 were cut to expose the dentin in the root portion. Mounted samples in acryl resin were randomly divided into three groups. The Excite bonding agent was used in groups (1-1) and (2-1) Prime & bond NT in groups (1-2) and (2-2) and finally the Clearfil SE Bond in groups (1-3) and (2-3). Then, composite Z100 was used to restore all cavities. Results: In coronal sections and in comparison between groups (1-1) & (1-2) there was no significant statistical difference. In radicular sections there was significant difference between (2-1) & (2-2) groups, (2-1) & (2-3) groups and (2-3) & (2-2) groups. Conclusion: Attachment to dentin either in coronal or in radicular sections had more bond strength when we use self etch bonding agent compared to total etch bonding agent. Also the type of bonding agent affects the bond strength in the root, but has little effect in the crown. Bonding agent with ethanol solvent has a greater effect than bonding agent with acetone agent. Key words: Shear bond strength - Dentin bonding system - Self etch – Smear layer Correspondence Author: Operative Dentistry & Dental Materials Dept., Faculty of Dentistry, Azad University (Khorasgan). e.mail:[email protected]

full textInfluence of powdered dentin on the shear bond strength of dentin bonding systems.
This study evaluated the effect of different amounts of dentin powder (DP) mixed in Clearfil SE Bond (CSB) or Single Bond (SB) on adhesion to dentin. Human third molars (n=96) were sectioned to expose the mid-coronal dentin and divided into eight experimental groups (n=12 per group), namely, Group 1: CSB, Group 2: CSB+1.5 mg DP, Group 3: CSB+3 mg DP, Group 4: CSB+4.5 mg DP, Group 5: SB, Group 6...
full textA Comparative Evaluation of the Shear Bond Strength of Three Different Fifth Generation Dentin Bonding Agents
Purpose: To compare and evaluate the shear bond strength of three different fifth generation dentin bonding agents used with composite resin and to determine the mode of bond failure in each case. Materials and methods: Forty-five freshly extracted human permanent molars were used and the specimens were divided into three test groups (N = 15) namely group A = Excite, group B = single Bond, grou...
full textShear Bond Strength of Nanocomposites to Dentin Substrate Treated with Er:YAG Laser Followed by Two Different Bonding Systems
Background and Aim: Preparation of tooth structure by laser systems produces a surface with different characteristics. Therefore, selecting an appropriate bonding system is necessary to achieve the maximum bond strength. The aim of this study was to compare the bond strength of Adper Single Bond 2 adhesive and Single Bond Univer-sal to dentin prepared by bur or laser. Materials and Methods: ...
full textShear bond strength of tooth-colored indirect restorations bonded to mid-coronal and cervical dentin.
To investigate the bonding of tooth-colored indirect restorations to cervical dentin, shear bond strengths of bonded resin inlays to cervical dentin and mid-coronal dentin were investigated and compared. Indirectly fabricated composite inlays (Estenia) were cemented with a dual-cured resin cement (Panavia Fluoro Cement II) to either cervical or mid-coronal dentin. Resin cement was cured with or...
full textShear bond strength of different adhesive systems to normal and caries-affected dentin
BACKGROUND AND AIM: According to the effect of the adhesive and substrate type on the bond strength, examination of the adhesive is required in all aspects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of different adhesive systems to normal dentin (ND) and caries affected dentin (CAD) in permanent teeth. METHODS: Thirty extracted molars with small occlusal caries were selected...
